Building a Supportive Club Culture: Mental Health Workshop at Ballajura Landsdale Cricket Club

On Thursday, 22 January 2026, SportWest and WA Cricket partnered to deliver a True Sport Mental Health & Wellbeing workshop for the Ballajura Landsdale Cricket Club. The session was facilitated by Kellie Lewis, Founder and CEO of The Mental Health Project, and focused on strengthening the mental health literacy of players, coaches, and volunteers.

The workshop aimed to build confidence and capability across the club community by teaching practical, sport‑relevant skills to support others. Participants learned how to check in on teammates, initiate meaningful conversations, and recognise signs that someone may be experiencing mental health challenges, all in a natural, respectful, and appropriate way for a sporting environment.

Key topics covered included:
• The importance of mental health in community sport
• How to have a safe and supportive conversation
• Simple, practical steps anyone can take to help someone
• An introduction to the True Sport Mental Health & Wellbeing resources

SportWest commends Ballajura Landsdale Cricket Club and WA Cricket for their leadership in reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and empowering their community to engage in open, supportive conversations.

Ballajura Landsdale Cricket Club will host their eighth annual Mental Health Charity Match on Saturday, 24 January 2026, raising vital funds for the Black Dog Institute.
