
Sport Integrity Australia, in collaboration with the WA Government and SportWest, successfully delivered the Safeguarding 101 session for the Western Australian sporting community, with over 100 registered sporting clubs taking part. The strong attendance reflected the sector’s ongoing commitment to creating safe, supportive environments for children and young people in sport.
The session provided practical, accessible information for clubs and State Sporting Associations looking to strengthen their safeguarding knowledge, processes, and responsibilities.

True Sport: Mental Health and Wellbeing
Jasmine Cappellucci, True Sport Manager, presented on the True Sport Mental Health and Wellbeing Initiative, outlining tools, resources, and practical approaches that sporting organisations can adopt to support the mental wellbeing of their members. Her presentation highlighted the importance of proactive, evidence‑based strategies to create safe and positive sporting environments.
Safeguarding for Sporting Clubs
Mat Sinclair, A/g Director Safeguarding at Sport Integrity Australia, together with Wendy Carter from Sport Integrity Australia, delivered an engaging and informative presentation on safeguarding practices for sporting clubs.
Their session helped participants:
- Strengthen their understanding of what a child-safe environment looks like
- Recognise potential indicators of harm or concern
- Navigate the correct reporting pathways
- Identify practical steps to build safer cultures within their clubs
- Club Resources and education on safeguarding best-practice
Who Attended?
Representatives from over 100 State Sporting Associations and community clubs attended both in person at the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport in Leederville, and online via Microsoft Teams.
The hybrid format ensured broad accessibility, while the in‑person component provided valuable opportunities for questions, discussion, and networking.
