On Tuesday, 28th and Wednesday, 29th May 2024, SportWest’s True Sport Manager, Jasmine Cappellucci, attended the Sport Integrity Australia National Integrity Manager Forum at Marvel Stadium, Melbourne. This two-day event brought together over 100 Integrity Managers from across Australia’s sporting landscape, alongside Sport Integrity Australia staff and government partners, to collaborate on strengthening integrity in sport.
Key Highlights
- Day 1:
The forum featured insightful sessions on safeguarding, member protection, and complaint management processes. Attendees engaged in scenario-based training and shared best practices to address integrity challenges across all levels of sport. - Day 2:
Jasmine participated in Lifeline Australia’s Accidental Counsellor & Managing Challenging Interactions training, gaining practical skills to support individuals during difficult conversations and critical incidents—an essential component of creating safe and supportive sporting environments.
Why It Matters
Sport integrity is a cornerstone of safe, fair, and inclusive sport. Through forums like this, SportWest continues to:
- Upskill in safeguarding risk management
- Expand knowledge of complaint handling and member protection
- Strengthen WA sport’s capacity to respond to integrity issues effectively
Jasmine’s involvement reinforces SportWest’s commitment to working collaboratively with Sport Integrity Australia, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, and other partners to ensure “No door is the wrong door” when it comes to integrity and safeguarding in sport. The True Sport Child Safeguarding Initiative, in partnership with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, is designed to help State Sporting Associations (SSAs) understand, navigate, and begin implementing the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.
This initiative provides a comprehensive suite of resources, including a self-assessment tool that guides SSAs through each principle. Based on the results of this assessment, SSAs can develop a tailored action plan featuring sport-specific examples to support practical implementation.
The action plan also includes templates such as a Child Safety Statement of Commitment and a Child Safety Code of Conduct, offering clear guidance for SSAs to create and embed their own safeguarding policies.
Thank you to Sport Integrity Australia for the invitation to attend and connect with likeminded organisations, prioritising safe sport across Australia.
