True Sport Launches Club & Community eLearning to Support Mental Health & Wellbeing in Community Sport

Following the success of the True Sport - Mental Health & Wellbeing Sport Administrator Awareness eLearning, True Sport is proud to announce the release of the new True Sport – Mental Health & Wellbeing Club & Community Awareness eLearning course, designed to support mental health literacy across all levels of sport in Western Australia.

In 2024, health promotion researchers from the School of Human Sciences at The University of Western Australia conducted an independent evaluation of the Sport Administrator eLearning. The findings were overwhelmingly positive, with 100 staff from 38 different State Sporting Associations (SSAs) having completed or currently undertaking the course.

The original eLearning modules were developed to build SSA staff capacity to recognise, respond to, and promote mental health and wellbeing in sport. Key findings from the evaluation included:

  • 97% of participants were satisfied with the eLearning modules.
  • 92% would recommend the modules to others in similar roles.
  • Completion of the course was linked to a statistically significant improvement in mental health literacy.
  • Participants reported increased confidence in managing mental health issues, responding to critical incidents, and supporting both their own and others’ wellbeing.

One of the primary recommendations from the evaluation was to expand access to the broader WA sporting community, including clubs, coaches, volunteers, parents, and participants.

In response, the True Sport team collaborated with The Mental Health Project once again to develop a tailored version of the eLearning for Club & Community audiences. This new course maintains the essence and core messages of the original while being mindful of volunteer time and capacity and the nuanced role clubs can play in fostering a supportive and positive mental health & wellbeing environment for their members.

The True Sport – Mental Health & Wellbeing Club & Community Awareness eLearning was officially released on 14 November 2025. The free course is open to anyone interested in learning how to:

  • Support mental health and wellbeing in sport
  • Respond to mental health concerns
  • Have supportive conversations
  • Understand the role of mental health champions in clubs
