True Sport Mental Health & Wellbeing Initiative Named Finalist for WA Mental Health Awards

The True Sport Mental Health & Wellbeing Initiative has been announced as a finalist for the prestigious Promotion or Prevention Award, sponsored by MercyCare, at the upcoming WA Mental Health Awards. Presented by the Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH), these awards celebrate individuals, initiatives, and organisations making an outstanding contribution to mental health across Western Australia.

The Promotion or Prevention Award recognises an outstanding contribution to the prevention or promotion of mental health in WA for people with moderate, severe, or persistent mental health challenges. Finalists must demonstrate how they have increased community awareness and understanding, reduced stigma, and engaged strongly with mental health consumers, the sector, and the wider WA community.

The True Sport Mental Health & Wellbeing Initiative was recognised for its impactful work delivered throughout 2024, supporting the mental health and wellbeing of the sporting community. Key achievements include:

  • Education & Resources: Delivery of a free 90-minute eLearning course and Mental Health and Wellbeing workshops, co-designed with mental health professionals.
  • Toolkits & Support: Launch of eToolkits for clubs and state sporting associations, a digital critical incident response toolkit, and a comprehensive Community Links Directory.
  • Champions Network: Establishment of the Mental Health Champions Network, empowering advocates across 23 organisations.
  • Sector Reach: Over 19,000 interactions with online resources, 187 workshop attendees, and 146 eLearning completions.
  • Collaboration: Partnerships with trusted organisations such as The Mental Health Project and Access Wellbeing Services to deliver evidence-based, community-led programming and support.

“We are incredibly proud to be recognised as a finalist for the Promotion or Prevention Award,” said Jasmine Cappellucci, True Sport Manager. “This achievement reflects the dedication of our team, partners, and the entire WA sporting community to creating mentally healthy environments. By working together, we’re breaking down stigma, building capacity, and ensuring everyone involved in sport feels supported and empowered to thrive.”

Winners of the WA Mental Health Awards will be announced at a gala celebration on 10 October at Beaumonde on the Point, overlooking the iconic Swan River.
