SportWest at the WA Respectful Relationships Teachers and Sport and Recreation Forum 2024 – “Boys to Men: Engaging Boys and Men in Gender Equality”

Starick’s Respectful Relationships Sport and Recreation Program harnesses the power of sport and recreation to drive positive cultural change. In partnership with SportWest, Starick is engaging the Western Australian sporting community to help prevent gender-based and family and domestic violence.

Using an evidence-based, primary prevention approach, the program provides tailored resources and support for sport administrators, volunteers, members, players, and the broader community. Together, we aim to foster safe, respectful, and inclusive environments built on gender equality and non-violence.

SportWest is proud to be part of the WA Respectful Relationships Teaching Support Program and Respectful Relationships Sport and Recreation Program Forum, themed “Boys to Men: Engaging Boys and Men in Gender Equality.” This important event brings together educators, community leaders, and sporting organisations to explore strategies for promoting respect and equality through sport and recreation.

SportWest's Chief Executive Officer, Troy Kirkham, will present at 1:50 PM, sharing insights on how sport can play a pivotal role in shaping positive attitudes and behaviours among boys and men. The presentation will highlight SportWest’s commitment to fostering safe, inclusive environments and driving cultural change through the True Sport framework.

Following the presentation, Troy will join a panel discussion alongside leading voices in gender equality, including Maree Crabbe and Daniel Principe, to discuss practical ways we can all “Play Our Part” in creating a future free from violence and discrimination.

This forum is an opportunity to learn, collaborate, and take action towards building respectful relationships across all sectors, with sport as a powerful platform for change.
