TRUE SPORT | SPORT PARENT MASTERCLASS

Calling all parents in sport – whatever sport, whatever season, whatever reason your children and young people play.  Join us for this special event as we uncover ways to support your teens with confidence, on their journey of sport across the high school years.  

The Sport Parent Masterclass promises to be an engaging, practical session designed to empower parents as they facilitate the journey of sport with their children and young people. Discover the keys to navigate the moments that matter with greater understanding around holistic youth development factors.   

Leave with tools to help you create enriched sport experiences, foster healthy motivation and wellbeing in junior sport, while building habits that encourage lifelong participation. 

About the Presenters:

Brendyn Appleby is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Allied Health at Murdoch University, where he coordinates first year and Masters level exercise science units. With more than 25 years of experience as a high performance strength and conditioning coach, he has worked across elite sport including the WA Institute of Sport, Western Force (Super Rugby) and the Australian Men’s Hockey Team supporting athletes through the Rio, Tokyo and Paris Olympic Games. 

Troy Kirkham is a Churchill Fellow, having been awarded the opportunity in 2015 to investigate innovative and inclusive retention strategies for youth participants in community sport.  Troy has spent his career working across education as both a teacher and Deputy Principal, and as a sport administrator progressing to be a key member of the executive team of WA Football before his most recent role of CEO of SportWest.  He has refined his perspectives around the power of community sport through lived experience as a coach, a volunteer and as a parent four active kids.  

Who this workshop is for:

The content of this event is relevant for parents with children aged 11-17 years, however parents with children from all age groups are welcome to attend. There will be opportunities to attend with your teen in the future.
