De‑Escalation Resource to Support Safer Sidelines in WA Community Sport

Creating safe, positive and supportive sidelines is essential to ensuring that young people feel confident, respected and excited to participate in community sport. To help clubs, volunteers and officials navigate challenging moments, a new De‑Escalation Tips and Workshop resource has been launched for the sporting sector.

This practical resource provides simple, easy‑to‑use strategies designed to help coaches, officials, volunteers and spectators respond effectively when tensions rise. By focusing on calm communication, shared values and personal safety, it supports clubs to maintain an environment where wellbeing comes first and the game remains the centre of attention.

The tips within this resource are intended to strengthen relationships, protect the mental health of everyone involved, and reinforce a positive culture across junior and community competitions.

A high‑resolution print‑ready PDF is also available for clubs wishing to display these tips around their facilities or include them in coach, parent or volunteer inductions.

Sport-Focused De‑Escalation Workshops

For clubs and associations seeking deeper support, sport‑specific De‑Escalation Workshops are now available.

These workshops equip participants with practical tools to confidently manage challenging behaviour on the sidelines - ensuring coaches, officials, parents and volunteers feel prepared to respond safely and constructively.

Because every sport and environment is different, sessions can be fully tailored to your:

  • Sport or activity
  • Age group or competition level
  • Common pressure points or behavioural challenges
  • Club culture and environment

Whether you are looking to strengthen your club culture, upskill your people, or reinforce a calm and respectful sideline environment, these workshops offer practical solutions that make a real difference.

Don't miss our Bouncing Back on the Sidelines workshop on 31 July 2025.

If your club or association is interested in organising a tailored session, we would love to support you.
