True Sport is proud to be featured by Reconciliation WA, shining a spotlight on the True Sport Cultural Education Initiative and its role in supporting more culturally safe, respectful and inclusive sporting environments across Western Australia.
In a recent video interview, True Sport Manager Jasmine Cappellucci discusses the importance of embedding cultural understanding and inclusion within the sporting sector, and how the initiative is helping organisations strengthen their commitment to reconciliation.
Developed specifically for the Western Australian sporting landscape, the True Sport Cultural Education Initiative provides practical resources and guidance to support State Sporting Associations, clubs and community organisations in creating welcoming environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The initiative was developed in partnership with SportWest's Cultural Navigation Lead, Sharon Wood-Kenney of South West Kinships Cultural Immersions, Phil Narkle, Jade Narkle and True Sport's Cultural Navigation Advisory Group, bringing together the knowledge and experience of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal sport professionals to ensure the resources are relevant, accessible and meaningful for the sector.
At its core, the initiative recognises the powerful role sport plays in bringing people together, fostering a sense of belonging and creating stronger communities. By equipping sporting organisations with practical tools and resources, True Sport aims to help organisations build cultural capability, strengthen relationships with First Nations communities and contribute to meaningful reconciliation outcomes.
