As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, our Sport Spotlight Series continues with a powerful story froAs part of our Sport Spotlight Series, we turn our attention to Football West, an organisation making meaningful strides in promoting mental wellbeing across the football community.
Throughout October, Football West wraps up its impactful 2024 Kick Off the Conversation program, with winning clubs to be announced on 24 October. This initiative, proudly supported by Healthway, has been instrumental in encouraging open dialogue around mental health and fostering supportive environments within clubs.
A key highlight of the program was a free webinar held on 2 October, presented by Richmond Wellbeing. Titled "Online De-escalation Skills and Trauma", the session equipped club members with practical tools to recognise and respond to signs of distress or trauma - reinforcing the importance of mental health awareness both on and off the pitch.
Monica Naves, Partnerships Manager – Football West:
“We are pleased to see the interest and engagement level of our clubs with the Kick Off the Conversation program. It highlights how committed our football community is to fostering open discussions around mental health and wellbeing. By participating in this initiative, clubs, coaches and volunteers are helping to create a supportive environment, ensuring that mental health is prioritised both on and off the pitch.”
Football West’s dedication to mental health advocacy is a powerful example of how sport can be a platform for education, connection, and healing. By embedding mental health awareness into its programs, Football West is helping to build a stronger, more resilient football community.
