
SportWest and Basketball WA are proud to announce a collaborative initiative aimed at strengthening the culture of safety, integrity, and wellbeing across Western Australia's basketball community. Through a dedicated Associations Education Series, the partnership is bringing vital training and awareness to both regional and metropolitan basketball clubs.
Empowering Clubs Through Education
The Education Series, held in late March and early April, featured sessions tailored to the unique needs of regional and metro associations:
- Regional Session: Monday, 31 March 2025 | 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
- Metro Session: Thursday, 3 April 2025 | 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
These sessions focused on key topics essential to safeguarding children and young people in sport, including:
- True Sport Mental Health & Wellbeing Initiative
- Child Safeguarding Practices
- Recruitment and Reporting Protocols
- Working with Children Checks

A Unified Approach to Integrity in Sport
The initiative is supported by Sport Integrity Australia, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, and the Government of Western Australia, reinforcing a whole-of-sport approach to creating safe, inclusive, and respectful environments.
By equipping clubs with the knowledge and tools to uphold best practices, SportWest and Basketball WA are championing the principles of True Sport - ensuring that every child and young person can thrive in sport, free from harm and supported by a community that values integrity and wellbeing.
