SportWest proudly reaffirmed its commitment to fostering safe, inclusive, and respectful sporting environments at the recent Athletics West Clubs Conference. Presenting at Beaumonde on the Point, East Perth on Saturday, 20 July 2024, the True Sport team showcased the renewed True Sport Sideline Behaviour Initiative in partnership with Club Respect.
This strengthened collaboration marks a significant step forward in promoting positive culture across Western Australian sports clubs. Through the initiative, clubs gain access to a comprehensive suite of educational resources aimed at empowering coaches, volunteers, players, administrators, and spectators to model respectful behaviour both on and off the field.
“A great sporting culture on and off the field is underpinned by values of respect.” said Jasmine Cappellucci, True Sport Manager at SportWest. “It’s fantastic to see Athletics West taking a proactive approach to promoting respectful sideline behaviour, and the workshop was exceptionally well received by Athletics West club members. That leadership sets a strong example for other sporting organisations across WA. By equipping clubs with the right tools, we are helping build environments where wellbeing, inclusion, and positive behaviour are the norm.”
The True Sport Sideline Behaviour Initiative is designed to:
- Encourage respectful and inclusive language and actions from spectators.
- Support mental wellbeing within club environments.
- Strengthen club values through education and leadership.
- Embed long-term behavioural change across grassroots and elite sport.
Resources provided through the initiative include workshops, digital toolkits, and practical guides tailored to the unique needs of sporting communities. These tools help clubs foster cultures grounded in respect, ensuring sport remains a safe and welcoming space for everyone.
SportWest’s presentation at the conference highlighted real-world examples of clubs already benefiting from the initiative, showcasing how proactive sideline behaviour can positively influence team dynamics, community engagement, and overall club health.
