SportWest and Starick continue to grow our partnership and promote respectful relationships and gender equality in a bid to stop violence against women and girls before it starts. Jasmine Cappellucci, True Sport Manager and Rebekah Yeow, True Sport Project Officer participated in Starick's Respectful Relationships workshop on Wednesday, 28 May 2025 at The Hub, Bentley Technology Park amongst a number of State Sporting Associations, sport and recreation clubs, youth organisations and regional local governments.
True Sport Manager, Jasmine Cappellucci said "We are delighted to continue to strengthen our collaboration with Starick. The workshop was sport-specific and provided sporting organisations with the tools and resources to promote respectful relationships and gender equality in sport. Sport is an integral part of Australian culture. It is woven into the fabric of the everyday lives of many Australian individuals, families and communities. To prevent violence against women we need to have conversations and educate people where they ‘live, work, socialise and play’. On and off the field, sport provides the environment and opportunity to set and reinforce positive community standards about respect and equality. It can challenge problematic norms, practices and structures to drive cultural change. The partnership between SportWest and Starick will support sporting clubs and organisations to create lasting change and foster an environment that is safe, respectful and inclusive for all members, volunteers, families and spectators."
SportWest's True Sport program will continue to expand in the near future and further bolster the supports for the West Australian sporting sector with a True Sport Respectful Relationships Initiative on the cusp of launching to the sector. The initiative will provide resources, eLearning, tools and workshops for the sector to prevent gender-based violence by creating inclusive, equitable, healthy, and safe environments in sport.
Starick's Respectful Relationships Sport and Recreation Program is a State Government priority to prevent family and domestic violence through respectful relationships. To find out about becoming a participant in our program contact rre@starick.org.au
