On Thursday, 21 November 2024, SportWest’s True Sport team proudly presented at the Sport Integrity Australia Integrity Network Forum, sharing insights into the True Sport Mental Health and Wellbeing Initiative and its impact on community sport across Western Australia.
True Sport, proudly supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the session showcased how sporting organisations can better support the emotional and psychological wellbeing of athletes, volunteers, and administrators. With mental health increasingly recognised as a cornerstone of safe and inclusive sport, True Sport’s initiative offers practical, values-driven solutions for clubs to foster environments where wellbeing is prioritised.
Attendees were introduced to a range of support services available through the initiative, including:
- Mental health awareness campaigns tailored for youth and community sport
- Referral pathways to professional mental health support services
- Trauma-informed training modules for coaches, volunteers, and staff
- Tools to foster psychologically safe environments within clubs
- Resources to encourage open conversations around mental health and wellbeing
- Employee and Volunteer Assistance Programs to support those working in sport
- Critical Incident Response eToolkit to guide clubs through traumatic events and crises
The session was well received by integrity leaders from across Australia, highlighting the importance of embedding mental health support into the fabric of sport at all levels.
This initiative is a strong reflection of True Sport’s continued dedication to creating safe, inclusive, and supportive environments across all levels of sport. Workshops like this play a crucial role in equipping community sport leaders with the practical tools and knowledge they need to foster resilience, wellbeing, and positive experiences within their sporting communities.
