Building Resilience in Motorcycling Athletes

On Saturday 21 March, the True Sport team partnered with A Stitch in Time to deliver a targeted session for Motorcycling WA athletes, focused on supporting their mental wellbeing and performance under pressure.

Facilitated by Brad Robbins from A Stitch in Time, the session brought together 10 emerging motorcycling athletes to explore the realities of being a competitive athlete, particularly the pressures they may experience within their sport.

Brad created an open and engaging environment where athletes were encouraged to reflect on the different types of pressure they face—whether it be internal expectations, competition nerves, or external influences. The session helped normalise these experiences, reinforcing that pressure is a common part of sport at all levels.

A key focus of the presentation was equipping athletes with practical coping strategies they can use before, during, and after race day. From managing pre-race nerves to staying present in the moment and reflecting post-performance, athletes were provided with simple, effective tools to support both their performance and overall wellbeing.

The session also highlighted the importance of self-awareness and proactive wellbeing practices, encouraging athletes to recognise when they may need support and how to respond in a healthy and constructive way.

By partnering with A Stitch in Time, True Sport continues to prioritise the mental wellbeing of young athletes, ensuring they are not only prepared for competition, but supported to navigate the challenges that come with it.

Thank you to Brad from A Stitch in Time for coming out, and to Motorcycling WA for the invitation. If you would like a True Sport delivery as part of our Mental Health and Wellbeing Initiative, please contact truesport@sportwest.com.au
