Triathlon WA Strengthens Community Wellbeing Through Mental Health Workshop

Triathlon WA has continued its commitment to supporting the people who make the sport possible - its coaches, clubs and officials - by hosting a dedicated True Sport Mental Health and Wellbeing workshop as part of its Community Circle initiative at SportHQ, Floreat.

On Saturday 21 March 2026, the True Sport team teamed up with Kellie Lewis from The Mental Health Project, who brought her expertise and practical approach to help participants better understand how to care for their mental health and support others within their sporting environments.

Building Understanding and Awareness

The workshop utilised the resources and toolkits available through the True Sport Mental Health and Wellbeing Initiative to explore key areas designed to strengthen the wellbeing of the triathlon community across Western Australia, including:

  • Recognising signs of mental health challenges in yourself and those around you
  • Understanding stress indicators, emotional shifts and behavioural changes
  • Creating psychologically safe environments within clubs and coaching groups
  • Having supportive conversations with athletes, volunteers and peers

Kellie offered real‑world examples and easy‑to‑apply tools, empowering Community Circle members to feel more confident in identifying when someone may need help.

Practical Wellbeing Strategies for Everyday Use

Participants were also guided through a range of simple yet effective wellbeing strategies—practices that can be used before training, during competition seasons or as part of regular club operations. These included:

  • Mindfulness and grounding techniques
  • Building healthy routines
  • Strategies to manage overwhelm or burnout
  • Ways to foster stronger social connection across the sport

These practical tools aim to help individuals build resilience while strengthening the overall wellbeing culture across triathlon in Western Australia.

Supporting the Triathlon WA Community Circle

Triathlon WA’s Community Circle brings together coaches, clubs and officials to share knowledge, build capability and strengthen their role in shaping positive sporting environments. Mental health is a critical part of that mission, and this workshop represents another step toward ensuring everyone involved in the sport feels supported, valued and connected. Congratulations to Triathlon WA on leading the way with a proactive and committed approach to mental health and wellbeing in your sporting community.
