SportWest Welcomes New Cohort for Starick’s Respectful Relationships Sport and Recreation Program

On Tuesday 10 March, SportWest welcomed staff from a range of sporting organisations, including Volleyball WA, Rowing WA, PANSA and the Albany Adult Riding Club, to SportHQ for the latest delivery of Starick’s Respectful Relationships Sport and Recreation Program.

This group marks the fifth cohort to participate in the initiative. To date, 30 sporting organisations have taken part, strengthening their commitment to creating safer, more respectful sport and recreation environments across Western Australia.

The Program is designed to support State Sporting Associations, sport and recreation programs, and local governments to build practical capacity around promoting gender equality and respect. Its long‑term goal is to help prevent violence and disrespectful behaviour towards women and girls by embedding positive cultural change across all levels of sport.

Participants began the day with a powerful Welcome to Country delivered by Robyn Collard and Josh Kelly, before moving into workshops focused on understanding what primary prevention is, how sporting organisations can play a role in the prevention of violence and developing implementation plans. Throughout the session, attendees explored ways their organisations can introduce meaningful, incremental changes that collectively contribute to safer, more inclusive clubs and communities.

SportWest extends its thanks to the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport, the Department of Communities, and Starick for their ongoing support in making these workshops possible.

The next Respectful Relationships Sport and Recreation Program workshop will take place on 25 June 2026.
