City of Fremantle Hosts True Sport for Mental Wellbeing Workshop to Support Local Clubs

SportWest’s True Sport team was honoured to present to the City of Fremantle, held during National Volunteers Week and deliver a session focused on the importance of Mental Health and Wellbeing in community and sporting club environments. The presentation, held on Friday, 16 May 2025, aimed to empower local educators, sport coordinators, club representatives, volunteers and community leaders with practical strategies to support the emotional and psychological wellbeing of young athletes and participants, utilising the resources and tools in the True Sport Mental Health and Wellbeing Initiative.

A key focus of the presentation was the Employee and Volunteer Assistance Program available through True Sport, along with the Critical Incident Response eToolkit - both designed to help clubs and organisations respond effectively to mental health challenges and traumatic events.

Participants were introduced to the True Sport Mental Health and Wellbeing Initiative, proudly supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, which offers:

  • Mental health awareness campaigns tailored for youth sport
  • Referral pathways to professional support services in Western Australia
  • Trauma-informed training modules for coaches, administrators, volunteers, and staff
  • Tools to foster psychologically safe environments
  • Resources to encourage open conversations around mental health

The presentation also highlighted the importance of creating safe spaces for individuals to express themselves, seek help, and feel supported - both on and off the field. Attendees left with a renewed understanding of how sport can nurture not only physical development, but also emotional strength and social connection.
