Racial Discrimination Policy Resources for Safer and More Respectful Sport

The Racial Discrimination and Vilification Resources Hub provides sporting organisations and clubs across Western Australia with practical tools to help prevent, address and respond to racism in sport. Developed through the True Sport Cultural Education Initiative in partnership with Sport Integrity and Governance Partners Australia, the policy supports safer, more respectful and inclusive sporting environments.

State Sporting Associations and clubs play a critical role in shaping inclusive cultures on and off the field. By adopting and embedding the policy, organisations show leadership and a clear commitment to equity, inclusion and respect.

Racism has no place in sport, but it can still appear in overt, subtle and systemic ways. The policy helps organisations move from awareness to action by promoting cultural safety, strengthening trust and supporting lasting change.

The policy outlines what racism in sport can look like, who it applies to, the standards of behaviour expected, and how reporting and complaint processes should be managed.

To help organisations put the policy into practice, SportWest also provides implementation resources for clubs and associations.

  • Policy templates for National Integrity Framework-aligned organisations and those using internal complaint processes
  • Racial Discrimination Policy Toolkit with adoption guidance, FAQs, communication resources, and training links

Implementing the policy is about more than compliance. It helps organisations build cultures where people feel they belong, while embedding anti-racism principles into governance, operations and everyday practice.

As part of the True Sport Cultural Education initiative, SportWest will host a free webinar on Monday, 29 June to support organisations to implement inclusive policies in practice.

Facilitated by Iain Roy, CEO of Sports Integrity and Governance Partners Australia (SIGPA), the webinar draws on extensive experience in sport integrity and governance, including direct involvement in developing the policy and supporting toolkit.

You’ll gain insights into:

  • Why the policy is necessary and common challenges for clubs
  • What constitutes racial discrimination and vilification in sport
  • Roles, responsibilities, and expectations across organisations
  • How to manage breaches and reporting processes
  • Practical steps to adopt and embed the policy in your environment

The session will also cover implementation guidance, including endorsement, complaints pathways, and embedding the policy into club culture.
