Sport Spotlight Series: Rottnest Channel Swim Association Makes Waves for Mental Health Awareness Month

As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, our Sport Spotlight Series continues with a powerful story from the Rottnest Channel Swim Association (RCSA) - an organisation that’s diving deep into the conversation around mental health through the inspiring journey of Andy Donaldson.

Andy is undertaking a remarkable 33km swim from Rottnest Island to Elizabeth Quay, raising funds for Telethon and supporting youth mental health research at the Perron Institute. This initiative is not just a physical challenge—it’s a bold statement about the role sport can play in fostering mental well-being.

“The Rottnest Channel Swim Association is committed to supporting initiatives that highlight the benefits of swimming not just as a sport, but as a means to improve mental health. Andy’s swim brings focus to an important cause, and we are proud to back his efforts in raising both awareness and funds for youth mental health. It's a powerful reminder that sport can play a vital role in improving lives.” Josh McCleery, RCSA Executive Officer said.

To support Andy’s mission, the public is encouraged to donate or join in virtually by completing a swim that mirrors Andy’s crossing. This inclusive challenge allows swimmers of all levels to take part in the movement and contribute to a meaningful cause.

This spotlight is a testament to how sport can be a powerful tool for change. Through Andy’s swim and RCSA’s support, we’re reminded that physical activity can be a lifeline, a community builder, and a platform for advocacy.
