SportWest Champions Positive Change at Play Well WA Roadshow

SportWest was proud to participate in the Play Well WA Roadshow held this week at the vibrant City Beach Surf Club, joining a dynamic group of leaders and changemakers from across Western Australia’s sporting sector. The event was a powerful platform for shaping the future of positive environments in community sport, with a strong focus on inclusion, collaboration, and innovation.

Leading the Conversation on Positive Sport

SportWest CEO, Troy Kirkham featured in a compelling panel session, where he highlighted the alignment between SportWest’s True Sport program and the Australian Sports Commission's Play Well initiative. His insights showcased how True Sport is driving meaningful change by enriching the sporting experience for all participants - on and off the field.

The day was filled with rich conversations, collaborative table discussions, and forward-thinking ideas aimed at removing barriers to participation and fostering inclusive, welcoming spaces across all levels of community sport.

Both Troy Kirkham and Jasmine Cappellucci were appointed to the Play Well Project Squads, which was a national appointment process. Five Project Squads were announced that will help deliver the 34 priority activities identified in the strategy. Troy was appointed to Play Book Project Squad – activities relating to the development of strategies, frameworks and approaches that can create a blueprint for the industry to improve the participant experience and activities that help align the participation system. Jasmine was appointed to the Positive Environments Project Squad – activities that create quality experiences for everyone involved in sport.

They include representatives from the sport, education and government sectors as well as ASC staff with members meeting in Canberra for the first time this week.

A Collective Effort for a Better Future

SportWest extends its gratitude to the Australian Sports Commission, Cameron French, General Manager - Participation and the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport for hosting such an engaging and interactive session. Their leadership and vision were instrumental in creating an environment where diverse voices could be heard and valued.
