SportWest is proud to announce the launch of its newest True Sport initiative, True Sport Respectful Relationships. A bold step toward embedding respect, equality, inclusion, and safety into the heart of Western Australian sport.
Developed in partnership with Starick, a leading WA-based not-for-profit organisation working to end family and domestic violence, the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport and the Department of Communities, this initiative empowers sporting organisations and clubs across Western Australia to take a proactive role in the prevention of family and domestic violence.
“Sport is a powerful platform for cultural change. Whether on the field or in the clubhouse, it shapes attitudes and behaviours. Through this initiative, we’re empowering clubs to lead the way in promoting respectful relationships and gender equality,” said SportWest CEO, Troy Kirkham.
The initiative builds on Starick’s Respectful Relationships Sport and Recreation Program (RRSRP), a primary prevention program launched in 2023. The program supports State Sporting Associations, youth-based sport and recreation organisations, and regional local governments to foster environments that are safe, inclusive, and respectful. 24 sporting organisations have already taken part in the program, and Starick and SportWest expect many more to get involved through the momentum created by this partnership and the True Sport Respectful Relationships Initiative.
SportWest encourages all sporting organisations to engage with the initiative and explore the available resources to help build safer, more respectful sporting communities.
