SportWest Unites for 16 Days in WA: Taking a Stand Against Domestic Violence Through Sport

SportWest is proud to stand united with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Department of Communities, athletes, coaches, and representatives from the state’s sporting community to support the #16DaysInWA campaign. This important initiative calls for collective action against domestic violence, raising awareness and encouraging conversations about this critical issue across Western Australia.

Running from 25 November 2024 to 10 December 2024, the 16 Days in WA campaign aligns with the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

SportWest recognises that community sport plays a pivotal role in shaping cultural attitudes, fostering inclusion, and promoting respect. As a platform that brings people together from diverse backgrounds and ages, sport has a unique opportunity to influence societal norms and set a positive example when it comes to addressing issues like domestic violence. By engaging athletes, clubs, and fans, sport can spark meaningful conversations that drive social change and advocate for healthier relationships, both on and off the field.

The 16 Days in WA campaign will form part of new True Sport Respectful Relationships Initiative, set to launch to the sector in 2025! This initiative aims to empower sporting organisations and clubs across Western Australia to take a proactive role in the prevention of family and domestic violence.
