Strengthening Sport Integrity: Insights from the National Integrity Managers Forum

In May 2024, SportWest was proud to be represented at the National Integrity Managers Forum held at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, with Jasmine Cappellucci, True Sport Manager, invited to attend as part of the growing National Integrity Manager (NIM) network.

The forum, hosted by Sport Integrity Australia, brought together Integrity Managers from across the country to collaborate, share insights, and strengthen the collective capability of Australian sport to manage integrity threats. Jasmine’s participation marked a significant milestone for SportWest, reinforcing its commitment to fostering safe, fair, and inclusive sporting environments across Western Australia. It also provided an opportunity to showcase SportWest’s True Sport program on a national stage, including raising awareness of key resources such as the True Sport Child Safeguarding Initiative and WA-specific resources aligned with the 10 National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.

Celebrating two years since the establishment of the NIM network, the event provided a platform for open dialogue on pressing integrity issues including:

  • Global trends in sport integrity threats
  • Tackling eSafety and social media challenges
  • Sports gambling and integrity risk assessments
  • Education initiatives such as the Start to Talk campaign and the AIS Respectful Behaviours program

Jasmine engaged with peers from National Sporting Organisations (NSOs) and National Sporting Organisations for People with Disability (NSODs), contributing her expertise and Western Australian perspective to discussions on safeguarding, complaint management, and policy implementation.

“Connecting with integrity leaders from across the country was an incredibly valuable experience.” said Jasmine Cappellucci. “It highlighted the power of collaboration and the shared responsibility we all have in safeguarding the integrity of sport. “Our partnerships with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Sport Integrity Australia and their NIM network, and our broader network of subject matter experts are vital. Together, we’re shaping a collaborative, multi-agency approach to integrity in sport - one that ensures every sporting organisation knows where to turn for support. In Western Australia, we’re united in our commitment to integrity, and we firmly believe that no door is the wrong door.”

The forum also emphasised the importance of peer support within the NIM network, acknowledging the challenges faced by those working in integrity roles. The event concluded with a networking dinner, fostering deeper relationships and continued dialogue among participants.

SportWest commends Sport Integrity Australia for its leadership in building national integrity capability and looks forward to continuing its active involvement in future forums and initiatives.
