WA Cricket Champions Mental Health During Awareness Month

WACA - Western Australian Cricket Association have long been active supporters of creating mentally healthy spaces and people in and around the game of cricket. In support of the 2024 Mental Health Awareness Month, WA Cricket attended Turn Up in Blue day on the 10th of October hosted by Holyoake.

The day was well attended, with over 20 service providers attending and schools and the wider community participating in the event, with WA Cricket’s team providing information on mental health and wellbeing resources through cricket to the community.

In addition to this, the team at WA Cricket launched a social media campaign where we heard from staff and WA Cricket players on their mental health and wellbeing journey, and how they look after themselves. Staff and players also shared tips on how to support your mental health in the workplace. This was coupled with their fortnightly internal mental health newsletters that are shared so WA Cricket staff are always learning and practising ways to manage their wellbeing.

Jo Davies, General Manager of Community Cricket and a valued member of the True Sport Advisory Group, had the following to say:

“At WA Cricket we want to use mental health month to shine a light on the importance of mental health in sport. As a sporting organisation we have the opportunity to empower communities and build social capital to not only help prevent the onset of mental health concerns, but also build a strong base of social support for people if they need someone to chat to. We are mindful of being consistent with our internal initiatives as well, where everyone can feel supported in their role and know that they can reach out if they need."
