SportWest and the True Sport team were pleased to participate in the WA Integrity Network Forum, hosted by Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) in partnership with the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport (CITS) on Tuesday, 4 August 2026.
The forum brought together representatives from State Sporting Associations (SSAs) across Western Australia to hear the latest developments in sport integrity, share good practice and strengthen sector-wide collaboration.
A key highlight of the forum was a presentation from the WA Ombudsman's Office on the development of the Independent Oversight of Child Safe Organisations Scheme in Western Australia. The session provided important insights into the proposed framework and what it may mean for sporting organisations as the sector continues to strengthen its approach to child safeguarding and participant welfare.
The discussion reinforced the increasing expectations on sport to demonstrate strong governance, accountability and proactive safeguarding measures, while continuing to create safe and welcoming environments for all participants.
As part of the forum's good practice showcase, Jasmine Cappellucci, True Sport Manager at SportWest presented on SportWest's True Sport Mental Health and Wellbeing Initiative, highlighting the important connection between wellbeing, culture and integrity within community sport.
While integrity is often associated with governance, complaints management and safeguarding, the presentation explored how supporting the mental health and wellbeing of volunteers, administrators, coaches and participants contributes to stronger, safer and more sustainable sporting environments.
Community sport is powered by dedicated volunteers and administrators who frequently juggle significant responsibilities within their organisations. Providing access to education, resources and support helps build organisational resilience and supports positive club cultures where people feel valued, supported and safe.
The True Sport Mental Health and Wellbeing Initiative continues to provide practical resources and guidance to sporting organisations across Western Australia, helping clubs and associations better understand the role wellbeing plays in participant experiences and organisational culture.
The forum also provided attendees with updates from Sport Integrity Australia on current integrity initiatives and resources available to support sporting organisations, while creating valuable opportunities for networking and knowledge sharing amongst SSA representatives.
